In honor of the inestimable good deeds of Padres Contra Cancer organization in support of patients and their families battling pediatric cancer, a bevy of A-list luminaries from the worlds of entertainment, sports, big business and government turned out on Saturday night at Alex
Yemenidjian’s marvelously revitalized Tropicana for a $1000 a seat fete.
Hostess and patron of the organization, Eva Longoria (an investor in Las Vegas dinning hot spot Beso) looked oh-so fabuloso in her shimmering, skin-tight masterpiece. Newly single uber-emcee George Lopez stole the show with hours of ribald hilarity, culminating in his spontaneous double-downs in the live auction, resulting in huge pay offs with bid after bid fetching in excess of $20,000! Business titan, Tim Lewicky, CEO of AEG Corporation (which owns the LA Kings and the Staples Center) was honored as the man of the night for the endless good works of his employees and corporation Emmy-award winning television journalist Giselle Fernandez roused the well-healed audience with a stirring story of the intertwining of her personal and professional life in reporting on the heroics of children with cancer.
California Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, LA Laker Matt Barnes, and Entourage’s own Rex Lee added additional glitter to the Vegas nightscape. Two highlights from the evening that will not soon be forgotten were George Lopez spontaneously calling the great Edward James Olmos up on stage to a round of applause, only to bring the house down by calling him the “Mexican Richard Lewis.” And yet later in the evening, at the exclusive after party at the Tropicana’s Little Nikki night club, the crowd of regulars joined the throng of VIPers in a Lopez-lead chant of “Eva, Eva, Eva” that was reminiscent of a 1950s Lloyd Weber Buenos Aires!
